Sterling Cup Raises Over £20k For The First Time!

Copes Grabs Back A Point….

On September 11th, the insurance industry came together for a day of camaraderie, competition, and charitable giving at the 5th Annual Sterling Cup, held at the beautiful Stock Brook Manor. With over 90 golfers in attendance, the event once again proved to be a highlight of the calendar — blending sport with purpose in unforgettable fashion.

A Thrilling Contest

This year’s Ryder Cup-style format delivered another nail-biting finish. Team White Hats, captained by Paul Copeland, clinched victory with a score of 805 points, narrowly edging out Team Black Hats, led by Rod Wellard, who finished with 783 points. The overall series now stands at 3–2 in favour of the Black Hats — but the rivalry is alive and well!

Making a Difference

Thanks to the incredible generosity of players and sponsors, the event raised an outstanding £21,250 for UK cancer charities. 👏

A hole lot of support! Insurance industry golf day raises record £15k haul to support those battling cancer.

Eighty golfers from across the insurance industry came together to raise a record £15,000 and support those battling cancer.

Insurance broker Sterling Insurance arranged its third golf competition with this year’s fundraising total being split between four UK cancer charities – one of which supports brave Archie Wilks, whose father Simon works for the company.

After donating £10,000 and then £12,000, organisers were delighted that the 2023 Sterling Cup saw a huge £15,000 collected to support good causes.

Peter Cook, a manager at Sterling Insurance, said: “With the sun shining, and to see so many smiling faces coming together to help raise £15k, was a pleasure. To have Archie along again to tell us how well the treatment is going makes it all worthwhile and really reminds us of why we are all there."

“I’d like to thank all the players, teams, sponsors and Manor of Groves for hosting the event and Kevin Carpenter for his amazing trick shot show. The two captains are great sports and I’m very thankful for their involvement and all of the backroom team that help organise this day, it really is a team effort.”

Rod Wellard’s ‘Team Wellard’ beat Paul Copeland’s ‘Team Copes’ by 28 points to make it 2-1 after three years of the Ryder-Cup style event being held at the Hertfordshire course.
